Intercultural workshops for teaching Spanish to African migrants

October 16 - October 17

The Center for African Studies at the University of La Laguna has been promoting the integration of the migrant population for several years through the teaching of Spanish, thanks to the selfless collaboration of volunteer teachers. In partnership with the Boole Ma Association, it is organizing these Intercultural Workshops for Teaching Spanish to African Migrants. The aim is to create a space for training, the exchange of experiences, and collaboration among Spanish language teachers, volunteers, university students, cultural mediators, social organizations, and African migrants.

Its main objective is to improve the methodologies and resources for teaching Spanish to migrants, taking into account their different educational trajectories, learning needs and cultural references, paying special attention to practical methods based on conversation, listening, repetition, visual supports and everyday life situations, incorporating African cultural elements to promote learning and intercultural coexistence.

The event consists of an academic day to be held on October 16th in the Elías Serra Rafols Room of the Geography and History Building at the Faculty of Humanities on the Guajara Campus. Attendance is limited to 50 people, with at least 10 places reserved for students of the University of La Laguna. Registration is free and on a first-come, first-served basis.

The following day, Saturday, October 17, an intercultural gathering will be held with up to 60 participants, including invited migrants, speakers, companions, and organizers.
