Purple march for sport

March 17 - 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Sports Service of the University of Laguna invites the university community to participate in the “Purple March in Sport” on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the athletics track of the sports facilities on the central campus. This event commemorates “International Women’s Day,” celebrated on March 8, and this year we align ourselves with the UN and the Ministry of Equality under the slogan «Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL women and girls.».

During the march, we will celebrate as a team the progress made, highlight the inequalities that continue to occur, and raise challenges and proposals to make physical activity and sports an accessible and safe space for girls and women.

We encourage attendees to wear something purple and bring a sign with a short, clear message promoting true equality in physical activity and sport. If you'd like to amplify your message, bring a whistle, drum, rattles, or other noisemaker. The sign can be made as a group—class, residence, department, service, etc. Some ideas for the messages could be the following:

  • Progress achieved, which we must continue fighting to maintain.
  • Name and contribution and/or success achieved by girls and women role models in Sport, at local or international level, and/or a photo of the same (athlete, coach, manager, researcher, educator, referee, physical trainer, doctor, lawyer, journalist…).
  • Examples of sexist stereotypes, roles, and myths in sports that continue to be reproduced.
  • Examples of inequality (sexist insults, sexist behavior, invisibility, unequal distribution of resources, awards and recognition, sexual abuse, etc.) that still occurs against girls and women in sports simply because they are women. Inequality that you have experienced, or that you have witnessed in someone else or in one of your role models.
  • A challenge yet to be achieved.
  • A concrete proposal to generate progress.

Meeting point: lower part of the stands of the track.

We'll dye the dance floor purple!!!
