CESCO Seminar 80: Social Economy from the Local Level: Municipal Instruments and Public Policies to Promote Change

April 17 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Cajasiete Chair of Social and Cooperative Economy (CESCO) is organizing this seminar which will be held online on April 17, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00.

The seminar aims to analyze the role of local councils in promoting the social economy and explore which public policy instruments can be applied at the local level to foster this economic model. Starting with an overview of the development of social economy policies in the regional context, it will address how municipalities can translate these strategies into concrete measures that promote the creation, consolidation, and visibility of social economy initiatives within their territories.

The session will focus primarily on lessons learned from the analysis of local public policies in the Valencian Community. It will offer an overview of the current state of municipal policies related to this area, identifying the most frequently used instruments and analyzing the characteristics that make certain municipalities particularly conducive to its development. Examples of best practices will also be presented, and the relationship between regional social economy development plans and their implementation at the local level will be explored. Based on this evidence, the seminar will seek to identify key insights and potential avenues for strengthening the role of municipal public policies in promoting the social economy.
