Third Film and Culture Conference. From Page to Screen: Film Adaptations of Literary Works

October 19 - October 20

The third edition of the University of La Laguna's Film and Culture Conference is dedicated to the process of adapting literary works into film. This phenomenon has given rise to a significant part of cinematic heritage and, at the same time, constitutes an area of particular interest for analyzing the relationships between different artistic languages. In this context, the conference is conceived as a space for encounter, analysis, and reflection aimed at addressing the main aesthetic, narrative, and historical challenges posed by film adaptation.

The program combines lectures, film screenings, and panel discussions to offer a multifaceted approach to the phenomenon of adaptation and to analyze issues such as fidelity to the original text, the reinterpretation of a literary work, and the creative process involved in transforming a literary work into a film. In this way, the event aims to contribute both to the academic training of students and to cultural dissemination, as well as to bringing the University closer to the community.

The guest speaker, David Felipe Arranz, is a journalist, philologist, writer, and cultural commentator. His career combines communication, literature, and film, with a particular focus on the relationship between literary creation and its cinematic adaptations, in line with the thematic focus of the 3rd Film and Culture Conference at the University of La Laguna. He has extensive experience in radio and television and is part of the RTVE team for "Secuencias en 24H," dedicated to current affairs and film commentary. His journalistic and educational career was recently recognized with the Antena de Oro award, granted by the Federation of Radio and Television Associations of Spain. He is the author of several books on film and the links between literature and screen, and has contributed to newspapers and other media outlets.

This activity is aimed at university faculty and students, as well as anyone interested in film, literature, and culture. It is a free academic activity open to the public until capacity is reached. Certificates of attendance will be issued to students who demonstrate a minimum attendance of 80% of the sessions.
The III Film and Culture Conference ultimately aims to create a meeting place between the University and society, combining academic reflection, cinematic experience and cultural dissemination around a phenomenon of special relevance in the history and creation of audiovisual media: the relationship between literature and film.
