Geolodía El Hierro 26

May 9-9:00 am - 3:00 pm

On the weekend of May 9th and 10th, Geolodía returns, the major annual geological outreach event organized by the Geological Society of Spain (SGE) with the support of numerous national and local organizations. Thousands of people will have the opportunity to enjoy a day in the field, accompanied by geologists. The 50 scheduled excursions will be completely free and open to everyone, regardless of their prior knowledge of geology. The University of La Laguna is heavily involved in this event, with activities on several islands.

Geolodía El Hierro 26 is dedicated to unraveling the coastal formations of the low island of El Verodal: caves, headlands, islets, stone arches, etc. We will carry out a thorough observation of the characteristics of these structures and, like detectives of the past, we will try to establish the most probable "crime scene" that gave rise, in the past, to these curious geological structures.

With the help of Gabriel López Marina, geologist at the Geopark, and Ramón Casillas Ruiz, scientific advisor at the Geopark, we will be hiking this coastal route, approximately 4 kilometers long. We will meet at the Valverde Bus Station at 9:00 AM on May 9th. From there, we will travel by bus to Arenas Blancas and continue on foot (also approximately 4 kilometers), finishing the hike in the mid-afternoon. The maximum number of participants is 40. To participate in the excursion, prior registration is required by May 5th or until the maximum number of participants is reached. Please register by emailing cancelitas@meridianosau.es
